The first official day of summer is today and I can tell because it is finally starting to warm up in Los Angeles. I could feel it this past weekend when we were walking along the beach… there was just a certain warmth to the air. I almost questioned myself when I said it is “finally” summer, because I do want warm beach days; however, living without central ac is somewhat brutal in July in Los Angeles. Oh well, that’s why we have seasons, right? To give us a variety (and longing) for each!

Keep reading for how I’m updating my regimen this summer, some new things I’m trying and some things I am stopping.

SUNSCREEN

Since it is summer, I thought it would be good begin with sunscreen recommendations. My favorite Pipette is sold out pretty much everywhere right now. I also love Babo Botanicals and Badger. For my face I like DRMTLGY or BloomEffects for makeup and Babo Botanicals or Badger for sport / sweat / swim. I recently bought the spray Babo Botanicals for the twins’ heads when they don’t wear hats and am going to try out this Sunny Screen stick on them too. I also like Hamilton Babies mineral sunscreen. ALSO In a pinch I recently used some Trader Joe’s sunscreen and it worked really welly / is priced nicely!

Some updates…

Yes, I am still using my humidifier. We are still in dry season and need to combat the summer heat as well. I actually just upgraded the twins’ humidifier to match mine. That’s how much I like it! The parts are easily dustable and/or can be washed in the dishwasher. The only downside is that it is a proprietary filter size, but they do ship directly to your door so you don’t have to think about it. They recently introduced a larger tank. Though I don’t have a need for it, I’m glad they made a larger version!

About a month ago I stopped taking one of my UC meds. I need to talk to my doctor about it, but it was making feel really bad. I’ve felt better, but am still not 100%. I am trying to make some diet changes and see if that helps. As far as hormones go, I am going to get a hormone panel + AMH to see where I’m at / how my numbers have shifted / see what I can do to help my body. I’m analyzing my supplements and for that reason have stopped taking collagen. It can make you feel bloated, so I’m seeing how I feel after a few months. I’m still doing a workout class twice a week and that sometimes seems to help. Either way, I’m going to keep moving my body. The body is wild!

While I’m still not consistent enough with my NuFace to bring you a review, I am consistently using my facial cups. I love them!! I pulled my NuDerma High Frequency Wand out of the back of my cabinet and have begun re-incorporating that into my routine as well. I think I’ll finally try my Frownies on my forehead soon, so be on the lookout for that. I know I need to wear them nightly, but I often have product on my face, so I’ve been trying to figure out the best time to wear them. I was recently gifted the Solawave, so I’m going to begin testing that out soon too! Another skincare item I recently brought into the mix is this Educated Mess Golden Hour Vitamin C Serum. I’ve almost finished the bottle and am about to buy another! Too soon to speak on it, but I recently added this honey oil to my routine! Around the same time, I also started trying out this Cocokind Barrier Ceramide Serum. So far I feel like it makes me skin soft and supple. will keep you updated!

One of my new favorite makeup / skincare products is the BloomEffects Tulip Dew Sunscreen Serum. It is glowy and protects your skin. I liken it to Ilia’s Super Serum, but I think I like this one better / it seems to wear a little better. I shared it in action here.

I haven’t spoke a lot on hair care in a while, but I am OBSESSED with this detox shampoo. It is so good; I try to use it once a week. I shared it on my hair here.

AM ROUTINE

  1. Primally Pure Soothing Bar. Use code ELLEMULENOS for 10% off. I wash my face with this bar! I used up my entire clarifying bar and wanted to try a new one. wet my face and wet the bar and go from there. Makes sense, but it’s been a very long time since I’ve used an actual bar of soap, so thought I’d mention it. I have this soap dish and really like it. For the longest time, I have used this foaming cleanser. I still really like it, but reserve it for trips and vacation purposes, as a bar of soap does not travel well.

  2. Educated Mess Golden Hour Vitamin C Serum. This is a newer add for me. So far I like it!

  3. Cocokind Barrier Ceramide Serum. It soothes the skin and locks in moisture!

  4. Jouer Cosmetics Hydrate and Repair Skin Barrier Cream. This is fairly new! I was hesitant, but honestly it is great. I prefer this under my makeup, as it isn’t oily.

  5. Goop Vita C Eye Cream. I’m still trying to see if it * actually * does anything for me, but so far I like it and it feels good under my eyes. I’m so tired these days, so anything helps!

  6. Sunscreen. It depends what I’m doing, but for everyday makeup, I am using DRMTLGY or BloomEffects.

PM Routine

  1. One Love Organics Vitamin B Oil Cleanser. I only do this if I wore makeup or sunscreen that day, otherwise, I just use the bar alone vs double cleansing. I also really like the Primally Pure cleansing oil as an option too. Try it for 10% off with discount code ELLEMULENOS.

  2. Primally Pure Soothing Bar. Same as AM!

*I switch every 3 nights… typically I use Benzoyl Peroxide (#3) one night, a Peel Pad (#4) the next night, and then Firming Serum (#6) etc every other night on the third night, then start over.

  3. Corrective Skincare LA 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. It is an acne medication that helps with resurfacing and killing off those deep under the skin pimples before they occur. I use this every other night because I don’t want to dry my skin out too much.

    ***OR***

  4. Corrective Skincare Peel Pads. I use these twice a week. They have salicylic and glycolic acid and also help with resurfacing and drying up any issues. I use individually wrapped Goop peel pads for ease during travel instead of these.

  5. ***AND / OR***

  6. Follain Firming Serum. I added this into my routine because it is a phyto-retinol, containing bakuchiol. It’s supposed to firm skin, reduce wrinkles, etc.

  7. Cocokind Barrier Ceramide Serum. Same as AM!

  8. Yaara Honey Oil. I added this into my routine because the ingredients just seem so nourishing. I have enjoyed using it for facial cupping and gua sha-ing. Use code ELLEMULENOS for a discount on the facial tools.

  9. Primally Pure Baby Balm. I top it off with this balm to seal all the goodness in! It’s the same cream use for the twins - so gentle. Use discount code ELLEMULENOS for 10% off.

  10. Jouer Cosmetics Luminize Slugging Balm. I have been using this under my eyes each night, on top of the Baby Balm I already use and I really like it. My sister kept stealing it from me when I was in a trip with her! It has caffeine, vitamin k, and feels luxurious.

  11. Primally Pure Chap Stick + Jouer Cosmetics Lip Mask. Sealed with a kiss!

EXTRAS:

  • Face masks. I need to buy more of the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel full strength. I used to use it once a week, but since my peel pads (that have salicylic acid) are back, I will space it out a bit more. I also try to use Primally Pure face masks once a week, usually on the evenings I do the full night routine, before I do all of the steps… It is basically my prep. I have all 3 and mix and match what I use. Lately I’ve been using the clarifying one everywhere though. I reviewed all the masks here. Get 10% off with discount code ELLEMULENOS. For a more of a budget friendly mask option, use this one. I am also still loving 100% Pure’s Bright Eyes mask. I also tried Jouer Cosmetics’ new Eye Masks and they work well too. If you like sheet masks, I like this brand and prefer to travel with them!

  • Facial Tools. I still like my facial dry brush. I also use my gua sha stone and facial cups several times a week. I reach for my NuDerma High Frequency Wand weekly as well.

  • Facials. I’m trying to get facials every 6-8 weeks to maintain and prevent angry, clogged pores. I’m also doing light chemical peels again! I see Skin by Maddie in Brentwood or go to Corrective Skincare in Santa Monica.

I’ll be over here trying to savor all of summer and take it a bit slower. Our fall is already packed and I know that means that the rest of the year will FLY!!. Soak in all the sun, just remember your sunscreen!!
