I had been eyeing Dr. Marten boots for probably a year, when I finally decided to purchase them, thanks to some Christmas money. If you want to know more about the shoe brand and how the shoe fits, click here! I already covered how the Doc Marten sizing runs / what size I got. I am wearing the Dr. Marten Leona Boot style, for reference.

I think the boots were more of a thought than something I’d actually buy prior to moving to LA. Moving from Dallas to Los Angeles has for sure changed my style. For example, I definitely look for more functional clothes now - shoes included! Less heels and more practical options like flat boots and sneakers. My main concern with Docs in Dallas was how the heck would I wear them? Now that I have them, I pretty much try to pair them with everything! Go figure ;)

Though I didn’t title this The Art of Versatility (for SEO purposes), it fits perfectly in with my versatility series, as I’m styling them 3 different ways for you today: comfy, casual, and chic! Doc Martens were created to be a comfortable shoe, so the fact that they are in vogue right now is a major plus. I’ll take it!! Last week I walked almost 4 miles without stopping in my Leona boots and they wore like a champ! These boots take no time to break in and the soles are fantastic. Just make sure to wear ankle socks, so they aren’t given the chance to rub. I did recently scuff the toe of one of my boots, but it should buff and polish out easily.

Moving onto the styling, keep scrolling for how I enjoy wearing them and links to other ways I have worn them. Enjoy!

Above we have my comfy interpretation, complete with bike shorts and an oversized tee. Because the boots are so practical, they actually pair quite nicely with an athleisure vibe. Here I am pairing them with leggings for brunch. And this was with a fleece, on a Costco run!

Below is kind of a casual Friday vibe, though you could probably wear this to any modern-day office. Remove the blazer to dress it down further. Treat the Docs like you would any casual boot. They are kind of intimidating I’ll admit; however, they shouldn’t be! Here I paired the boots with mom jeans for a concert. I actually didn’t end up wearing this look out, but it is very biker chick, or so I say biker chic?! This look is kind of casual, kind of dressed up, but I’ll go ahead and classify it in the casual category, since I’m wearing black jeans.

Last but not least is the the most formal of all, and kind of grunge chic! I wore this look to an interview last week and was complimented on it! It was actually in this outfit that I walked almost 4 miles home! I personally love the way it dresses down the look and humanizes it. If I was wearing over the knee boots or my 5 inch tall pumps, I would be less approachable here in my opinion. Last Friday night I paired the boots with a leopard midi skirt. I also wore the Docs with faux leather leggings and sequins on NYE!

Which is your favorite look? I honestly don’t know, because all of them are pretty practical and make sense for different occasions. I hope that helps speak to the fact that they really can go with most things and are a wonderful purchase thinking in cost per wear. Do you own Doc Martens or a similar combat boot? What is your favorite way to wear them? How can I get more use out of them?!
