Not Your Dad's Pigs in a Blanket Recipe
This is a sponsored post. Find Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Smoked Sausage at Albertson’s. All opinions and tastes are my own!
My favorite memories often involve some type of food. Growing up, breakfast was one of my favorite meals, and it still is! I have memories of Saturday morning smells of pecan waffles, cowboy eggs, and pigs in a blanket. Pigs in a blanket are my dad’s specialty. He makes them with the perfect bread to Hillshire Farm® Lit’l Smokies Sausage ratio. I always get compliments on them whenever I bring them anywhere! I always get asked what makes them different, andddd I’ll tell you in just a sec. First I want to talk about how I am putting my own little spin on them… TEXAS-ifying them if you will ;) (My dad is from Arkansas.)
I have a need for spice. I love spicy margaritas. I put ginger on pretty much everything. Anddd I’m not sure there is such a thing as too much cracked red pepper. A spice Nick and I love to use is Tajin Chili Lime. We dip fruit in it, we line our glasses with it—I mean, I can keep on going. The point is that I was super excited when Hillshire Farm® launched Tajin® Chili Lime Smoked Sausage at Albertson’s. They carry Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Smoked Link Sausage with Mango, Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Smoked Rope Sausage, and Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Lit’l Smokies Smoked Sausage. Hillshire Farm® is nostalgic for me, as that is what I grew up using, but it is so much more than that! Their sausages are made with high quality cuts of meat, so I know I’m eating well, but they also are fully cooked, so they are easy to prepare—regardless of the time I have on my hands. I also love that they have have been able to “grow up” with me, as they are now offered with Tajin® Clásico Seasoning. Is your mouth watering yet? Make sure you download the Albertson’s app for extra convenience!
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven per biscuit instructions. Put a sheet of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Put a small amount of flour on a cutting board. Dip biscuits in pile of flour. Roll each biscuit into an oval. (We roll 2 biscuits at a time.) Cut each oval in half. Roll 1 Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Lit’l Smokies Smoked Sausage with oval half. (So if you roll 2 biscuits at a time, that is enough for 4 sausages!) Repeat until done! We usually have a couple biscuits left over and just cook those next to the pigs. 1 cookie sheet usually holds around 40 pigs. Cook 8-10 minutes. Check after 8 minutes. Remove from oven once bottoms are brown, but tops are golden. Refrigerate what is not consumed.
We typically eat these for breakfast, but they are great as appetizers, finger food for showers and parties, and for snacks too! My sister and I will often eat these cold out of the fridge. Hah! My mom puts honey and butter on hers, but my dad, sister, and I all dip ours in mustard. SO GOOD! I hope you enjoy these as much as we do. Head to your local Albertson’s to try them for yourself. We grabbed some of the Hillshire Farm® Tajin® Chili Lime Smoked Link Sausage with Mango to grill out soon—can’t wait to try those too. Love a little sweet to mellow out my spice!
