On July 3, 2019, I lost my job. (wrote all about it here) Also on July 3, 2019, I found out that CorePower Yoga accepted me as an ambassador! To say that CorePower Yoga has been a light in that darkness is a complete and utter understatement. Some days, I would never have left my apartment if I had not had CPY to go to. Sure it helped me get out of the house, but it also helped me relax, move my body, and truly work on my breathing. Oh and I guess it toned me up as well ;)

Let’s look back at my early 2010’s. I had fallen in love with running, but hurt myself in 2015. I had to take a break, go to physical therapy, the whole 9 yards! I went to a yoga studio in 2016, but stopped attending after my office moved. 2017 I pretty much didn’t work out. I was overworked, tired, and just plain burnt out! 2018 came and I tried waking up super early to get a run or class in, but I wasn’t consistent. Later that year, I discovered the beauty of a lunch workout and became the most consistent I had ever been. Choosing to leave that job was hard, but I managed with my apartment gym for a while, as my new job didn’t offer anything regarding wellness. Getting let go in the heat of the Texas summer wasn’t on my list of fun things and it for sure didn’t leave me with a lot of options besides the small unit that my complex made into a workout facility. When I received word from CorePower, I didn’t care that it was hot as blue blazes in Texas and I was volunteering to work out in heated space. Sign me up, I said!

Now… I didn’t attend classes to lose weight. I went to classes because it made me feel good and I am a nicer person once I’ve practiced. Just ask my husband. Hah! Yoga rejuvenated me, while stretching me in ways I didn’t think I could go. As the months have gone by, I have surprised myself with how my body has toned and how much stronger I feel. To be honest, that is the biggest change for me - my mental state! My arms feel powerful and my core is on fire. Suuure I have my days where I wobble or slip from a pose, but I keep coming back.

A lot of people I talk to think that they aren’t good at yoga because they aren’t flexible. Let me tell you, friend. Yoga isn’t about being flexible! It’s about connecting every breath to movement… slowing down…gratitude…NOT sticking a pose or nailing a peak posture. That’s the human in us that desires the latter, but as you progress you’ll realize that most days you practice are different and you have to be thankful for them all. I love yoga because it has a “handicap”. Just like golf, experienced people can take beginner classes and make it more challenging if they need more of a push. Plus, even experienced people sometimes take it slow! More than anything, CorePower Yoga has helped teach me to truly listen to my body and what it needs. If you’re looking for a workout this New Year (or really anytime!), I highly recommend CorePower Yoga. Sweat and zen it out!! Personally, I think people would be nicer, and the world would be a better place, if more people practiced yoga!

Now that I’ve said all that, here are my results. Note that I didn’t ever plan on sharing pictures like this, so that’s why the first image is not in the same swimsuit. Most weeks I go at least 3 times during the week and get in a quick run when I don’t. I occasionally do a weekend class, but typically get mine in during the week days.
